An active leak is a different conversation from a roof that needs planning.
Tarping a roof in weather is its own job, and it is worth doing before anyone talks about slate. Call and say water is coming in — it moves you out of the schedule and into today.
If you can, put a bucket down and take a photograph of the stain before it dries. It tells us more than you would think about where the water actually got in, which is rarely where it came out.
